![]() I recently got hired at a hospital on the ED floor, my managers said training would be three days and I ended up spending two days on online classes they required me to take and spent one day on the floor. Is this normal? If not should I report it? The more I think back on it the more things I think we’re wrong. If she had gotten the catheter in I feel like the resident would get an infection from the unsanitary conditions. I am a new NAC but this all seems terribly wrong to me. The poor resident was crying out in pain and the nurse still wasn’t able to get the catheter in. She then attempted to put the new cath in without changing her dirty BM gloves and without putting lubricant on this new other cath which was larger than the last one. ![]() When I came back with the new catheter she had used wipes to push down and kind of cover the BM. She had me ask another nurse for a silicone cath because it would be more stiff. She then proceeded to attempt to cath the resident who still had a diarrhea BM in her brief? She failed, missing multiple times and not cleaning the cath between attempts. This nurse also tried to put on the sterile gloves but her hands were ‘too sweaty’ and the gloves were ‘too small’ so she just put on gloves from her cart. I was surprised however when the nurse didn’t remove the brief and clean the women before attempting to place the catheter. The resident has had small amounts of diarrhea for the last two days so I wasn’t surprised when we opened her brief and she had a BM. The nurse asked me to help with positioning the patient because she is in a lot of pain especially when moved. Today we had a resident who needed a straight cath. So I am a new NAC working at a health and rehab home for about a month now. Sorry for the wall of text, this is kind of long and I’m on mobile. I will also be submitting a written and signed report so there is a physical record. I called the DoN and am waiting for a call back. ![]() EDIT: Thank you everyone for your quick responses.
